Overview
- Build and deliver full-stack features across frontend, backend, APIs, and integrations — from requirements through release.
- Translate product and delivery needs into technical designs, implementation milestones, and maintainable code.
- Own technical design decisions including data modelling, API design, and system integration patterns.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and service modules that integrate with internal and third-party services.
- Model, query, and serve data efficiently, with attention to query performance and data integrity.
- Improve maintainability, reliability, performance, security, and developer experience across the systems you touch.
- Diagnose and resolve issues across frontend, backend, APIs, databases, and deployment boundaries, including production incidents.
- Define and uphold coding standards, review code, and mentor other engineers.
- Participate in code reviews, estimation, and team delivery rituals; document what future engineers need.
- Frontend: TypeScript, Vue.js, and React (Next.js-style modern web applications), component-driven UI, browser APIs, and frontend state management.
- Backend / API: Python and Node.js services, REST-style APIs, integrations, background jobs, and service-to-service interfaces.
- Data: Relational databases such as PostgreSQL — schema design, queries, query performance, and practical data modelling.
- Delivery: Git and pull-request workflows, automated tests, Docker/containerized services, CI/CD, and basic logging and observability.
- Quality & security: Web security fundamentals (OWASP), authentication and authorization, and a focus on reliability and maintainability.
- Strong professional experience building full-stack web applications with modern TypeScript-based frontends and backend services (Python and/or Node.js).
- Ability to design, implement, test, debug, and deploy production-grade features.
- Comfort working across frontend, backend, APIs, relational databases, application state, and UI components.
- Sound understanding of reliability, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Strong Git, debugging, testing, and code-review habits, and a track record of mentoring other engineers.
- Clear communication about progress, uncertainty, blockers, and tradeoffs.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, on short notice when required (see Travel).
- Professional working English.
- Experience with Python/FastAPI and service-oriented architectures.
- Experience with geospatial data or GIS — PostGIS, GeoJSON, GDAL/OGR, spatial queries and indexing.
- Experience with map-based visualisation libraries (Mapbox GL JS, Leaflet, OpenLayers, deck.gl) or geospatial APIs.
- Authentication and authorization depth (OAuth2, JWT, RBAC); WebSockets and real-time or streaming architectures.
- Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containers, CI/CD, and observability experience.
- Experience with data-heavy or enterprise web systems and distributed teams.
- Exposure to defense, government, or intelligence-adjacent technology environments.
- Understand the relevant systems, workflow, delivery context, and current risks.
- Deliver scoped improvements with clear communication and review.
- Reduce bottleneck pressure in your area by leaving behind maintainable code, documentation, checks, runbooks, or reusable patterns.
