  • Supporting Teaching and Learning
  • Support individuals and small groups of students to access learning, following lesson plans and guidance provided by the class teacher or specialist staff.
  • Deliver targeted interventions (e.g. reading, phonics, writing or mathematics) as directed by the teacher or learning support lead.
  • Reinforce learning objectives and success criteria, encouraging students to think deeply and make meaningful progress.
  • Support students with additional needs, including special educational needs (SEN) or English as an additional language (EAL), to remove barriers to learning with empathy and patience.
  • Encourage students to become independent, confident and resilient learners who take increasing responsibility for their learning.
  • Promote effective spoken and written English across the curriculum, modelling clear and respectful communication.
  • Assessment and Feedback
  • Provide clear, constructive feedback to students on their learning, under the guidance of the class teacher.
  • Contribute to the assessment of pupil progress through thoughtful observation, discussion and evidence gathered during lessons and interventions.
  • Share relevant information with teachers in a timely and professional manner to support planning and next steps.
  • Support students in reflecting on and reviewing their own learning, encouraging a growth mindset and self-awareness.
  • Behaviour and Well-being
  • Promote positive behaviour for learning in line with the school’s behaviour policy, modelling calm, respectful and ethical conduct.
  • Establish positive, trusting and respectful relationships with students, acting as a consistent role model at all times.
  • Support students’ emotional well-being and social development through an empathetic and nurturing approach.
  • Help students to develop co-operative and collaborative learning skills.
  • Manage low-level behaviour issues calmly and consistently, escalating concerns appropriately and professionally.
  • Classroom and Teacher Support
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and colleagues to support the effective delivery of the curriculum.
  • Prepare and organise learning resources as directed (e.g. photocopying, laminating, setting up activities).
  • Support classroom routines, transitions and organisation to maximise learning time and promote independence.
  • Assist with administrative tasks such as attendance support or classroom displays, where required.
  • Ensure resources are handled respectfully, stored safely after use, and that any damage, loss or misuse is reported to the homeroom teacher or relevant staff in a timely manner.
  • Supervision and Student Safety
  • Supervise students during break times, lunchtimes, transitions and school activities as required by the duty rota.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times, acting responsibly and ethically in line with safeguarding and health and safety procedures.
  • Assist with the supervision of students on educational visits and school events.
  • Support safe, calm and orderly movement around the school.
  • Communication and Professional Conduct
  • Maintain open, respectful and professional communication with teachers, colleagues and support staff.
  • Use school communication systems (e.g. email, internal platforms) appropriately and promptly.
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times and act with integrity when handling sensitive information.
  • Discuss pastoral or learning concerns with the class teacher, who holds overall responsibility for students.
  • Follow the school’s safeguarding and child protection procedures, maintain professional boundaries with students, and report any safeguarding concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).
  • Inclusion and School Values
  • Promote an inclusive environment where diversity is respected, valued and celebrated.
  • Support students from a wide range of cultural and linguistic backgrounds with sensitivity and understanding.
  • Actively contribute to the wider life, values and aims of the school as a collaborative, adaptable and reflective practitioner.
  • Assist with, support or lead after-school activities and clubs when required, ensuring student safety and engagement.
